Meade, 13, of Herald, right, and Bridgette Trahan, 16, of Acampo, members
of the Mokelumne Mounties Junior Equestrian Drill Team, competed in the
2008 Cow Palace Challenge at the Grand National Rodeo on April 4-7. The
team won second place in junior precision drill, second in rodeo drill,
third for theme and second in color guard. Other members include Brittany
Young, Rachelle and Courtney Reich of Lodi, Meryll Thompson and Amanda McLeod
of Acampo and Chloé Comporato of Clements.

The Mokelumne Mounties Junior Equestrian
Drill Team returned from a national competition with three second-place
trophies and one for third place. Competing at the Cow Palace Challenge
National Drill Team Competition in San Francisco, the group was second in
Junior Precision Drill Team, Rodeo Drill Team and Color Guard, and third
in the Theme Division, in which they dressed as hillbillies and carried
corn stalks. The team trains at the Clements Stampede grounds. Brittany Young, Rachelle Reich,
Meryll Thompson, Casey Meade, Bridgette Trahan, Amanda McLeod, Courtney
Reich, Chloe Comporato, Kyle Ferreira, Cassie Coleman, Yvonne Herring,
Marisa Beattie and Justin Taunton made up the team of riders 8 to 18 who
competed under the Mokelumne Mounties banner.

MOKEULMNE MOUNTIES ON THE MOVE
The
Mokelumne Mounties junior equestrian drill team recently competed in the
drill team competition during the Grand National Rodeo at the
Cow Palace in San Francisco and brought home several
awards. Te team, which has
riders from Lodi, Acampo, Herald and Clements, placed second in junior
precision drill, second in rodeo drill, third in the theme division
(hillbillies with corn stalks) and second in color guard. Tam members participating included
Brittany Young, Rachelle Reich, Meryll Thompson, Casey Meade, Bridgette
Trahan, Amanda McLeod, Courtney Reich, Chloe Comporato, Kyle Ferreira,
Cassie Coleman, Yvonne Herring, Marisa Beattie and Justin Taunton. The Mokelumne Mounties junior
equestrian drill team is open to boys and girls ages 8-18. The team was
formed in 1981 and is now a nonprofit organization. Tam members ride and
train their own horses to perform drills consisting of spectacular and
daring maneuvers to dramatic music. The team practices at the Clements

Equestrians win awards. The Mokelumne Mounties Junior Equestrian
Drill Team, which features teens from the Stockton area and foothills, won
several awards earlier this month at the Cow Palace Challenge National
Drill Team Competition, part of the Grand National Rodeo. The group was
awarded second place in the junior precision drill team and rodeo drill
team categories. Team members also won second- and third-place in the
color guard category. The team trains and rides horses that perform
difficult maneuvers.
